When the trend in design favored long, flat waste bunkers, Black Forest went retro, styling itself after the flashy bunkering popularized by Alister MacKenzie and George Thomas in the 1920's. Its unusual open-jawed par-73 design starts on a hilltop and finishes in the valley below, working around an older 18 holes without requiring a second clubhouse.
