Cherry Hills, William Flynn’s only design west of the Mississippi, opened in 1923 and has hosted three U.S. Opens, one of them an all-timer: Arnold Palmer’s 1960 charge from seven back. The Rocky Mountains frame the course, but its real defense is the greens, sloped in Old World fashion, with gradual tilts instead of heavy contour or sectionalization. Tom Doak and Eric Iverson led a restoration from 2007 to 2022, bringing back Little Dry Creek as both a strategic and penal hazard and reintroducing cross bunkers at the par-five 17th, which ends at an island green. The LINKS 100 U.S. panel ranked Cherry Hills 52nd.
