Golf Courses That Feel Inevitable

At Renaissance Golf Design, we believe the best golf courses don't announce themselves, they reveal themselves. Every project begins by listening: to the site, to its natural features, and to the people who will walk it for generations.

Our work is grounded in a simple principle: let the land lead.

Our Team

Tom Doak founded Renaissance Golf Design. He passed the reins some time ago and is no longer part of daily operations, but he remains the firm's founder and a friend to every RGD associate.

The firm today is led by Brian Schneider, Eric Iverson, Don Placek, and Brian Slawnik. Each spent 15 to 20 years learning the craft in the field before stepping into leadership, and that experience shows in how they work: walking sites together, refining ideas, shaping features, and making the thousands of small decisions that give each course its character. They devote more time and talent to each project than any other firm. It's how every course earns its place in the game's history.

Designed by Nature, Refined by Hand

Every project begins with walking the site, studying slopes, drainage, soil, wind, and how light moves across the land. Our process is as visual as it is technical. The best design decisions aren't made on paper; they're shaped in the field, in three dimensions, as features are being built.

We're on site for 100+ days per project. We shape greens and bunkers ourselves when possible. We stay until the course is right.

Built On Trust.

Renaissance Golf Design is known for a hands-on approach that devotes more time, talent, and field presence to each project than any other firm.

Learning The Craft

Great architects are made in the field. Our internship program continues the hands-on tradition Tom Doak established, learning by walking the land, studying great courses, and working alongside experienced designers.

Interns at Renaissance don't just observe; they participate. They shape bunkers, assist with routing studies, work with construction crews, and learn the craft where it matters most: on the ground.

Continue Ther Work

Tom Doak's legacy lives on not only in the courses he built but also in the designers he mentored and the standards he set. Renaissance Golf Design remains committed to that same thoughtful, patient approach to golf architecture.

If you're ready to begin a project grounded in the land, informed by history, and built to endure, we'd welcome the conversation.
